Boyertown Area Multi-Service names new executive director

Aug. 25—The board of directors for Boyertown Area Multi-Service Inc. has named Jocelyn Charles as its new executive director, the Boyertown and Pottstown-based nonprofit announced Wednesday.

In 2020, Multi-Service hired Charles, a Penn State graduate and volunteer soccer coach with the JT Dorsey Foundation: Soccer For Success, to serve as center director for the Ricketts Center, a hub of athletic, educational, recreational and wellness activities focusing on after-school programming for Pottstown youth, Multi-Service said in a press release.

Charles previously served as the director for the Ricketts Center for about seven years under a prior operator and served as interim executive director beginning earlier this year.

"Jocelyn is one of our organization's hardest workers, always motivated foremost by the good she can provide to people less fortunate than her," said Matthew Hovey, board president. "Jocelyn's experience leading the Ricketts Center uniquely qualifies her as someone who can bridge the Boyertown and Pottstown communities in terms of collaboration and outreach."

Charles said her passion for community aid keeps her going.

"I've always enjoyed working with and mentoring the youth but am honored to get the chance to expand my reach, not only in other communities but in working with different generations of community members," Charles said. "I get to learn from them, all of them, and use that knowledge to be a better, more understanding person and professional."

Multi-Service's programming includes the Center at Spring Street, Preston's Pantry, the Rickett's Center, Meals on Wheels and case management services that include assistance with governmental programs like LIHEAP, annual tax preparation, rental assistance and other needs.
