Boynton Beach man, 18, dies in late night shooting at West Palm Beach's Howard Park

WEST PALM BEACH — City police found an 18-year-old Boynton Beach man shot to death Monday night in the parking lot of a park near downtown West Palm Beach.

Investigators say Yamil Medina Villegas had met two other men at Howard Park shortly before 11 p.m. and that an altercation broke out that ended with him being shot.

Officers say Medina Villegas collapsed and died in the vehicle in the parking lot, on the 1300 block of Parker Avenue just south of Okeechobee Boulevard.

Police did not specify the nature of the meeting or suggest a motive for the shooting. Witnesses reported seeing two men running from the scene and heading north.

As of Tuesday afternoon, investigators were awaiting a report from the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of death.

Detectives do no believe the shooting was random and are seeking leads from anyone who has information about the case.
