DELRAY BEACH — A Boynton Beach man died Friday night when his bicycle collided with a car west of Delray Beach, police said Friday.

Grant Granger, 64, was traveling south on South Military Trail in a northbound lane at around 8 p.m. when he initiated an abrupt westbound maneuver in front of Flor Hernandez, 70, also of Boynton Beach, who was traveling north on South Military Trail in a 2011 Chevy Cruze.

Hernandez, who was driving with a 46-year-old passenger, swerved to the left in an effort to avoid Granger, but collided with the front wheel of his bicycle. Granger vaulted over the passenger's side of the Cruze, coming to a final rest in the first northbound lane of South Military Trail.

The Chevy mounted the center-raised median, traversed the southbound lanes and came to a final stop in the third southbound lane of South Military Trail, facing northbound.

Granger was taken to Delray Medical Center, where he died from his injuries shortly after 10 p.m., according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. Hernandez and her passenger were not injured, deputies said.
