Boys Basketball: Hansen, Kjenstad spark Great Plains Lutheran to win over Waverly-South Shore
Sam Hansen and Ethan Kjenstad combined for 39 points to spark Great Plains Lutheran to a 58-51 Eastern Coteau Conference boys basketball win over Waverly-South Shore on Monday.
Hansen scored 21 points and also snared nine rebounds for the Panthers (3-5 overall and 2-1 in the ECC). Kjenstad had 18 points.
Alex Heil contributed eight points, six assists and six steals. Myles York had five points and Trent Lien four points and eight rebounds.
Carter Comes notched 20 points and nine rebounds to lead Waverly-South Shore (1-6, 0-2). Landon Maag contributed eight points, Dan Dalton seven and Troy Kneeland Sam Appelhof each six.
• De Smet 75, Hamlin 57 — Damon Wilkinson and Kalen Garry each notched 24 points and seven rebounds to lead top-rated Class B De Smet (10-1, 3-1) to the Lake Central Conference win.
Tory Holland added 12 points and 10 rebounds, Rett Osthus nine points and eight assists, Blake van Regenmorter six rebounds and Kadyn Fast five points.
Tyson Stevenson led Hamlin (4-4, 2-2) with 15 points. Easton Neuendorf added 13 and Brennan Keszler 10. Neuendorf also contributed five rebounds, five assists and five steals.
• Waubay-Summit 65, Milbank 46 — JT Gulbraa’s 24 points and 11 rebounds powered Waubay-Summit (8-1) to the non-conference win.
Damon Opdahl contributed 12 points, six assists, six rebounds and four steals; Sonny Marquardt nine points and five rebounds; Jackson Wohlleber 11 points; Jonathan Johnston five rebounds; and Seth Gaikowski four assists.
Milbank (3-4) received 16 points from Bennett Schwenn, 13 from Garrett Mertens and seven from Justus Osborn.
• Estelline-Hendricks 81, Oldham-Ramona-Rutland 75 (OT) — Braxton Saathoff pured in 23 points, Joe McAninch and Lorenzo Iotti each 15 and Dawson Bury 12 to guide the Redhawks (6-4, 2-4) to the win in the Dakota Valley Conference game.
Saathoff also snared eight rebounds, Iotti seven, Bury six and McAninch five. Mattix Hausman scored six points.
ORR (7-2, 4-2) was led by Will Matson with 23 points, Orion Albertson with 20 and Isaac Trystad with 16.
• Sioux Valley 67, Chester Area 51 — The fifth-rated Class A Cossacks (7-2) used a balanced attack to notch the win. Parker Puetz had 13 points, Damian Danzeisen and Hayden Ruesink each 10, Oliver Vincent and Patrick Carey nine apiece and Dylen Milton eight.
Alec Squires garnered 13 rebounds and Ruesink 12. Vincent dished out nine assists.
Ashton Olivier had 15 points and Stratton Eppard 13 for Chester Area (5-7).
• Tiospa Zina 71, Britton-Hecla 63 — Jasiah Red Bear poured in 28 points to lift the Wambdi (4-3, 2-0) to victory in the Northeast Conference game.
Juron Adams chipped in with 15 points, Reondre Greeley eight and Perry Lufkins seven.
Aidan Fredrickson notched 23 points, Landon Carlson 14, Dawson Treeby nine and Ashton Mills eight for the Braves (2-6, 0-4).
• Flandreau 77, Deuel 56 — Tash Lunday’s 33-point, 11-rebound effort carried Flandreau (9-1, 3-1) to the Lake Central Conference win. Chase LeBrun added 16 points and 10 rebounds and Alex Anderson 15 points.
Gavin Benck’s 21 points paced Deuel (6-4, 0-3). Trey Maaland added 11.
• Dell Rapids St. Mary 56, Castlewood 50 — Nic Gaspar produced 24 points, John Pica 13 and Dylan Mathis 11 to lead St. Mary (7-3, 3-2) to the Dakota Valley Conference win.
Castlewood (4-5, 1-2) received 12 points from Carson Kirwan, 11 from Joe Decker, nine from Lane Tvedt and seven from Jackson Schofield.
• Hancock 67, Lac qui Parle Valley 49 — Matt Thompson collected 28 points and Sebastian Flex 10 to lead Hancock (8-3) to the Minnesota non-conference victory.
Landon Schirm produced 11 points, Kaden Molden nine, Kaiden Allpress eight and William Giese seven for LqPV (7-6). Schirm also had four assists and four steals and Blake Wollschlager grabbed eight rebounds.
• Deubrook Area 71, Alcester-Hudson 42 —Deubrook Area (5-4) handled Alcester-Hudson (1-9) in the non-conference game. No other details were reported.
• Postponed Games — The Flandreau Indian School at Sisseton (Jan. 31) and Tri-State at Oak Grove, N.D. games were each postponed on Tuesday.
