Boys basketball: Henderson finishes off Daviess with 12-0 run & 28 points from Gerard Thomas

HENDERSON, Ky. -- After suffering three close losses last week, Henderson County finished off a tight contest with Daviess County with 12 unanswered points and beat the Panthers 59-52 on Monday night.

Daviess County (8-10) had a 52-47 lead with 5:15 to play but was scoreless the rest of the way.

Last week, Henderson County (11-7) had dropped three road games at Castle, Central and McCracken County by a total of 16 points. The Colonels seemed to be headed toward a similar type outcome in their first home game in 10 days.

The Panthers had five of their 10 turnovers in the fourth quarter as they played the final 5:15 of the game without scoring. A steal and layup by Damarius Dixon, who finished with 12 points, pulled the Colonels within one at 52=51 with 3:43 to play.

Cooper Davenport put Henderson County in front for good with a pair of free throws with 1:59 to go. The Colonels were 8-of-9 from the free-throw line in the final two minutes and were 10-of-11 for the game.

Gerard Thomas, who has averaged 24 points over his last four games, scored the Colonels' first 10 points of the second half and finished with a game-high 28 points to follow his 29-point performance Saturday at McCracken County.

Max Dees topped Daviess County with 17 points but fouled out with 44.2 seconds to play. Devonte McCampbell added 12 points.

Henderson County, which has four games on the schedule this week, will play at Sixth District rival Webster County (9-10) Tuesday in the second game of a boy-girl doubleheader.
