Jan. 31—DAWSON — Dawson-Boyd put its stamp atop the Camden Conference North Division on Tuesday.

The top two boys basketball teams in the division met Tuesday at the Dawson-Boyd Community Center. And thanks to Drew Hjelmeland's outside shooting and a disciplined defense that got 14 steals, the Blackjacks cruised to victory, 71-34.

The win was D-B's eighth straight. They are now 5-1 in the Camden North. The Fighting Saints drop to 5-2.

Hjelmeland, a 6-foot-6 sophomore, was 7 of 8 from 3-point range, finishing with a game-high 23 points. He also grabbed seven rebounds and blocked three shots.

He was far from the only contributor for D-B. Senior guard Keegon Wicht had a double-double with 15 points (on 60% shooting) and 10 assists. Sophomore 6-7 guard Brayson Boike added 14 points, including a pair of dunks, and three steals. Levi Olson added nine points, six assists and four steals.

Up 15-12 with 6 minutes, 50 seconds left in the opening half, the Blackjacks ran away with the game with a 15-0 run. Four of Hjelmeland's 3-pointers came in the first half, including one at the buzzer that put D-B up 33-14 at the break.

Hunter Kallstrom was the only Fighting Saint in double figures with 11 points. He also had nine rebounds and a pair of steals. Malaki Lee added eight points.

Dawson-Boyd plays Renville County West at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Renville. KMS plays MACCRAY at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Kerkhoven.

Trevor Gray had 21 points to lead the Canby Lancers past Yellow Medicine East at Granite Falls.

Kolton Duis added 17 points and Michael Tol had 10 for the Lancers.

The Eagles out-scored the Jaguars 50-35 in the second half.

Ethan Bulthuis posted a 33-point performance to help Central Minnesota Christian dominate MACCRAY at Prinsburg.

Bulthuis' strong scoring night helped him to surpass 1,000 career points, as he now has 1,007 total career points. He made 14 of 21 field-goal attempts, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range.

MACCRAY's top scorer was Nathan Wieberdink with 19 points.

Grant Paffrath and Aedan Andresen went a combined 3-for-4 at the free-throw line in the final eight seconds of overtime to give New London-Spicer the home win over Watertown-Mayer.

The victory snaps a four-game losing streak for the Wildcats.

The game went to overtime after the Royals' Albert Rundell hit a 3-pointer with 1.8 seconds left in regulation.

Paffrath led the Wildcats with 23 points. Mason Delzer and Bryce Christensen each had 12 points, with Christensen hauling in eight rebounds.

Watertown-Mayer's John Mueller led all scorers with 24 points.

A half-court buzzer-beater by Litchfield's Jack McCann rimmed out, allowing Rockford to escape Litchfield with a Wright County Conference victory.

With 1:05 left to play, McCann hit a corner 3-pointer to cut the Rockets' lead to 39-36. Neither team scored the rest of the way.

McCann led all scorers with 13 points. He also had five rebounds and five assists.

Montevideo tied its school record for assists with 26 with its victory over Minnewaska at Montevideo.

Cooper Dack led the Thunder Hawks with six assists and Mason Jerve had 29 points, nine rebounds and four assists for Montevideo.

"That's something that we're priding ourselves in right now," Montevideo head coach Derek Webb said. "Any night anybody can have a great night. I'm really proud of our guys.

"It's a tough thing to buy into, not worrying about your own personal stats and that's what our guys are doing right now."

Hunter Kloos had 13 points and Tenzen Dahl added 10 for the Lakers.

Jonathan Reid of Community Christian School scored his 1,000th career point in the Eagles' Christian Athletic League win over Immanuel Lutheran in Willmar.

Reid, a 6-foot-6 senior, scored 25 points on 68.8% shooting. He also grabbed 10 rebounds (five offensive).
