Boys Basketball Roundup: Dawson-Boyd looks upward after win over YME

Jan. 21—GRANITE FALLS — Since starting the 2021-22 season at 6-0, the Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team has been riding through peaks and valleys. The Blackjacks had two straight losses, followed by two straight wins and another two losses.

Against Yellow Medicine East on Thursday, D-B looked to start another upward trend, beating the Sting for a 70-62 Camden Conference victory.

Tied at 12-all midway through the first half, the Blackjacks went on an 8-0 run. That gave the team a cushion on the way to a 31-29 halftime lead.

Keegon Wicht scored 13 of his team-high 24 points in the first half for D-B. Aiden Swenson had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, and freshman Brayson Boike chipped in with 10 points.

YME got stellar post play from 6-foot-5 junior post Bryce Sneller. With the size advantage in the paint, Sneller scored 24 points on 9 of 14 shooting to go with eight rebounds. Guard Nikson Knapper followed up with 12 points.

On the defensive end, the Blackjacks made it tough for the Sting to handle the ball, forcing 19 turnovers.

Dawson-Boyd is headed to Elkton, South Dakota, for a game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday against Oldham-Ramona/Rutland. YME plays Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Kerkhoven.
