Boys basketball roundup: Marsh, Buchanan have March plans

Feb. 7—On a night where Colby Marsh scored a career-high for the Bolton High boys basketball team, it was teammate Trevor Buchanan that was the hero.

The senior's three in the closing seconds game the Bulldogs a lead they wouldn't give up in their 61-56 win over East Granby in a NCCC game at Bolton High Monday.

The win assures Bolton (8-9) a berth in the Division V state tournament, the team's first since 2019.

The Bulldogs trailed 56-55 with time winding down when Buchanan hit a three-pointer to make it 58-56 with 1.7 seconds to play.

East Granby (3-13) called a timeout and on the ensuing inbounds pass, Andrew Baranov stole the ball and hit a three of his own as time expired to account for the final score.

East Granby led 21-16 after a quarter. The hosts trimmed the deficit to three, 35-32, at the half before taking a 48-47 lead entering the fourth.

Marsh made 11 field goals, including two threes, and went 4-for-6 from the line to finish with a career-best 28 points to lead Bolton. Buchanan finished with 16 points while Baranov had eight.

Kenzie Vick led East Granby with 13 points while Brady Gill had 12.

The Bulldogs entertain Coventry Wednesday.

ROCKVILLE 36, STAFFORD 34. In Vernon, Hason Green's late putback lifted the Rams to a NCCC win.

The win snaps a three-game losing streak for Rockville (10-8).

With the game tied 34-34 in the closing seconds, Green grabbed an offensive rebound and scored to put the hosts ahead with 1.7 seconds to play.

The senior finished with eight points in the win, all of them coming in the fourth quarter.

Stafford (5-11) led 5-2 after a quarter before being outscored by the Rams 15-6 in the second. The Bulldogs responded with a 14-6 run in the third to take 25-23 lead into the final quarter.

Sophomore Andrew Carangelo led the Rams with nine points while classmate Darek Albert scored eight.

Collin Gudeman paced Stafford with 11 points while Dylan McLaughlin (8) and freshman Colin Tozier (7) also played well.

Both teams return to court Wednesday. Rockville visits SMSA while Stafford hosts Granby.

EAST HARTFORD 82, TOLLAND 51. Josh Ikechukwu's double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds led the way as the Hornets won a CCC East game at home.

East Hartford (4-8) led 16-10 after a quarter before outscoring the Eagles (1-11) 21-10 in the second to take a 17-point into halftime.

Ikechukwu scored 10 points in the first quarter. He finished with five blocks and three steals.

Teammate Dom Laduca scored a game-high 22 points, making six of his eight baskets from beyond the arc. Damir Hudson and Tristan Walton contributed 10 points.

Mitchell Enman paced Tolland with 18 points. Cameron Lumia chipped in 11.

The Eagles travel to Somers today while East Hartford visits Cheney Tech Wednesday.

EAST CATHOLIC 87, ENFIELD 40. Preston Fowler and Luke Reilly scored 16 points apiece to lead East Catholic to a CCC East win in Enfield.

East Catholic (14-1), the top-ranked team in this week's GameTimeCT/New Haven Register state media poll, has won seven in a row. Meanwhile, Enfield (11-5) sees its seven-game winning run halted.

The visitors led 24-9 after a quarter and 47-18 at the half to take control.

Samson Reilly added 14 points in the win while James Jones and Rob Elliott had 10 points. Sophomore Josiah Upson led Enfield with eight points.

East Catholic hosts RHAM Thursday, the same night Enfield visits South Windsor.

GLASTONBURY 54, SOUTHINGTON 39. In Southington, David Smith scored 15 points to lead the Guardians to a CCC West win.

It's the third win in a row for Glastonbury (11-4).

The visitors led 7-6 after a quarter before opening up a 21-12 advantage at the half. Glastonbury led 35-23 after three.

Smith scored 11 of his points in the second half, including nine in the fourth quarter. Connor O'Leary contributed 13 points while Andrew Burns had 12.

Aidan Buck paced the Blue Knights (10-5) with 12 points.

Glastonbury is back in action Thursday when it visits Hall.

AEROSPACE 73, ACHIEVEMENT 59. Myles Fournier scored a game-high 27 points as the Jets won a CRAL game in Windsor.

The Jets (6-8) led 15-7 after a quarter and 38-20 at the half and never relinquished the momentum.

Sophomore Julian Surdyka added 24 points for the hosts while Jayden Ramirez contributed 10. Freshman Mohamed Camara led the Royals (1-13) with 21 points.

Aerospace returns to action today when it heads to Chaplin to play Parish Hill.

RIDGEFIELD 71, WINDSOR 45. Nick Sganga scored 16 points to lead the Tigers to a non-league win on the road Saturday.

Both teams were ranked in this week's GameTimeCT/New Haven Register state media poll. Ridgefield (12-2) was sixth while Windsor (12-4) was tied for ninth.

Ridgefield led 16-14 after a quarter before outscoring the Warriors 22-3 in the second to take control.

Ian Swiatowicz (15 points) and Evan Kozdeba (13) also played well in the win. Anthony Williams paced Windsor with 10 points while Kaiden James added nine.

Windsor plays host to Newington on Friday.
