Boys basketball roundup: Willmar can't hold off Fergus Falls' rally

Jan. 20—FERGUS FALLS — The Willmar boys basketball team had an early lead, but couldn't hang on, falling 56-47 to the Fergus Falls Otters on Friday night.

Willmar led by as many as eight points in the first half and trailed 26-26 at halftime.

Henry Bethel led the Otters with 20 points and eight rebounds.

Blake Schoolmeester had 16 points, Khalid Muhumed added 15 points and five rebounds and Max Mobley contributed 11 points and four steals for the Cardinals.

Willmar has a 1-4 Central Lakes Conference record and is 6-7 overall. Fergus Falls is 3-4 in the CLC and 5-8 overall.

Willmar plays host to Sartell at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Big Red Gym.

Eli Ehrke and Sawyer Kaczmarek each had 14 points and Joshua Fieche added 12 to lead Glencoe-Silver Lake past Litchfield in Glencoe.

Litchfield, which has lost three straight, is now 1-4 in the Wright County West and GSL is 2-1.

Senior guard Keegon Wicht had 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals to help lead Deason-Boyd to the victory over Yellow Medicine East at Dawson.

Lac qui Parle Valley snapped a seven-game losing streak with a dominating victory at Ortonville.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 3-3 in the Camden North.

Montevideo won a close one at Morris/Chokio-Alberta, keeping its composure down the stretch after garnering a 41-32 halftime lead.

"Morris is a very good team, very athletic," Montevideo head coach Derek Webb said. "Our guys stayed composed. We played really solid defense. Morris went on a run and took a lead late, but we made some plays down the stretch and made some free throws.

"This is our eighth or ninth one- or two-possession game. When you take a couple of tough ones on the chin you learn how to close out a tough one. We're really starting to come together."

Montevideo is 3-4 in the West Central Conference.

BOLD's win streak extended to five games after the Warriors got a West Central Conference win over West Central Area at Olivia.

Andrew Meyers paced BOLD with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Jack Gross added 19 points and eight assists. Ryan King chipped in with 12 points.

Benson secured its first West Central Conference win of the season after getting a road win over Minnewaska in Glenwood.

The Braves are now 1-5 in the West Central while the Lakers fall to 0-7.
