Boys basketball: Union County, Caldwell County shoot 68 free throws in Tigers' 87-83 win
MORGANFIELD, Ky. -- Caldwell County got the best of a free-throw shooting contest with Union County on Saturday in the final game of the Sixth District-Seventh District Challenge.
The teams combined to shoot 68 free throws in the game as Caldwell County took an 87-83 win. Caldwell County (2-1) made 25-of-38, while Union County (2-1) made 22-of-30.
Jabrion Spikes led the Tigers with 23 points and was one of five Caldwell County players to score in double figures. The Tigers outscored Union County 28-8 in the third quarter to open up a 70-53 lead only to see the Braves outscore them 30-17 in the final period.
Eli Mackey, who hit a team-high three 3-pointers, led Union County with 23 points. All five of the Braves' starters scored in double figures as Kris Hughes had 17 and Iverson King added 15.
Union County will host Livingston Central (0-3) Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
