Boys Basketball: Watertown avenges loss to Huron; Deuel stays perfect in Northeast Conference
Watertown pushed its winning streak to three games and avenged an early-season loss by beating Huron 59-44 in an Eastern South Dakota Conference boys basketball game Tuesday night in the Civic Arena.
The Arrows, who lost 52-47 at Huron in December, are now 5-6 overall and 3-3 in the ESD. Huron fell to 3-8 overall.
Drew Norberg set the pace for Watertown with a 27-point outburst. Devon Lewis added nine, Reese Stark seven and Evan Hamre six.
The Arrows made 22 of 48 field-goal attempts for 46 percent and held a 28-26 edge in rebounding, getting nine boards from Mack Johnson.
Reilyn Zavesky’s 20 points and seven rebounds and Max Kranzler’s 13 points paced Huron, which shot 36 percent (16 of 44) from the field.
Watertown visits Douglas on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. Central game.
• Deuel 60, Milbank 54 — Deuel (8-4, 6-0) remained undefeated in the Northeast Conference with the win.
Trey Maaland produced 16 points, Cooper Schiernbeck 15 points, Braydon Simon 11 points and four assists and Zane Bingham eight points and eight rebounds.
Bennett Schwenn led all scorers with 26 points for Milbank (4-5, 3-2). Kellan Hoeke added nine and Garrett Mertens seven.
• Florence-Henry 57, Arlington 40 — Mehki Keller’s 19 points lifted Florence-Henry (6-6) to the non-conference win.
Ethan Paulson and Peyton Roe each added nine, Andrew Schroeder seven and Tegan Sumner six.
Ryker Erstad’s 21 points led Arlington (5-5).
• Webster Area 60, Waverly-South Shore 46 — Jaydon Keller collected 29 points, seven rebounds and five steals and Jacob Pereboom 19 points and nine rebounds to spark the Bearcats (3-7) to the non-conference win.
Jacob Keller pitched in with eight points.
Troy Kneeland recorded 23 points and Carter Comes 12 points, 18 rebounds and five blocked shots for Waverly-South Shore (1-8).
• Hamlin 55, Aberdeen Roncalli 23 — Easton Neuendorf scored 13 points, Evan Storm 10 and Tyson Stevenson for Hamlin, which evened its record at 5-5 overall and 2-2 in the Northeast Conference.
Keegan Stewart led Roncalli (3-8, 0-5) with seven points.
• Castlewood 62, Colman-Egan 35 — Bryon Laue’s 18 points and seven rebounds led the way for the Warriors (7-5, 3-2) in the Dakota Valley Conference game.
Tristan Nielsen and Joe Decker each followed with 10 points and Lane Tvedt and Jackson Schofield each eight. Booker Schooley also pulled down seven rebounds and Decker six.
Antonio Manzano scored nine points for Colman-Egan (1-10, 0-6).
• Britton-Hecla 61, Leola-Frederick Area 44 — The Braves (3-6) received 17 points from Aidan Fredrickson, 11 from Dawson Treeby, 10 from Ty Fagerland and eight from Ashton Mills to win the non-conference game.
Ethan Morlock’s 13 points paced LFA (3-6).
• Elk Point-Jefferson 62, Sisseton 36 — Elk Point-Jefferson won for the eighth time in 11 games and dropped Sisseton to 4-5. No other details were reported.
• Dell Rapids St. Mary 81, Deubrook Area 62 — Dells Rapids St. Mary won the Dakota Valley Conference game to up their record to 8-4 overall and 5-2 in the DVC.
Deubrook Area slipped to 6-6 and 2-3. No other details were reported.
• Lac qui Parle Valley 75, Minneota 57 — Kaiden Allpress poured in 25 points and Landon Schirm 23 to lead the Eagles (8-7, 5-3) to the Minnesota Camden Conference win.
William Giese added 12 points and Kaden Molden eight. Schirm also had seven rebounds, four assists and four steals and T.J. Mitchell seven rebounds.
Cale Sorenson tallied 26 points and Max Rost and Anrthony Rybinksi each 11 for Minneota (4-10, 2-6).
• Dell Rapids 62, Elkton-Lake Benton 57 — Dell Rapids won the non-conference game by getting 17 points from Brayden Pankonen, 16 from Jack Henry and 15 from Landon Ruesink.
Miles Harming had 13 points and Aiden Erickson, Ryan Krog and Logan Kuehl 10 apiece fo the Elks (7-4).
• Redfield 57, Hitchcock-Tulare 39 — Jerrod Haider’s 18 points and six steals sparked Redfield (4-7) to the non-conference win.
Peyton Osborn contributed 16 points, Mitchell Mack 11 points, Justin Ratigan 13 rebounds and Nolan Gall six assists.
T.J. Salmen’s 21-point, 13-rebound performance led Hitchcock-Tulare (5-5).
