Boys basketball week in review: Winter Haven wins tournament plus more results

Winter Haven began the year by going 4-0 to win the Kevin Brown Memorial Tournament of Champions in Washington, Illinois, capping the week with a 78-61 victory over Lanier.

In the final, Isaac Celiscar and Jamie Phillips Jr. paced the Blue Devils with 21 points apiece.

Winter Haven opened the tournament with a 72-64 victory over Metamora (Ill.). Celiscar scored 19 points, and Dylan James scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

The Blue Devils then defeated Washington (Texas), 110-81. Kjei Parker led Winter Haven with 28 points. Celiscar scored 24 points, and Matt Vaughn added 22 points.

In the third game, Winter Haven routed Yorkville Christian, 90-41. Parker and Vaughn led the way with 19 points and 16 points respectively.

George Jenkins 71, Lake Region 63

Highlights: Jaquan Gross led the Eagles with 17 points, and Maddox Harold and Antonio Wright had 15 points apiece. For Lake Region, Brenton McKinney Allen led all scores with 24 points, and Perry Wilkerson added 10 points.

Apopka 52, Bartow 36

Highlights: EJ Horton led Bartow with 12 points, and Nathanial Smathers and Jayson Williams added seven points each.

Lake Wales 68, Horizon 44

Highlights: Devin Ossinac and Jeremy Willingham each scored 16 points, and Sebastian Perez added 13 points to lead the Highlanders.

Frostproof 56, DeSoto 50

Highlights: Jay Leonard scored 23 points with 10 rebounds, 11 assists and three steals, and Terell Berry added 18 points for the Bulldogs. Stanley Whipple pulled down nine rebounds and added seven points.

Santa Fe Catholic 55, Lake Gibson 54

Highlights: Tate Darner scored 18 points, and Aiden Jones added 12 points to lead Santa Fe Catholic. Eqequiel Munoz grabbed seven rebounds.
