Boys Best of the Week: Ridgedale gets Saturday night football win

CRESSTLINE — Ridgedale is undefeated in Saturday night football games.

For the second time this season, the Rockets went on the road on a Saturday and came home with a victory, this time blanking Crestline 36-0 in a Northwest Central Conference game.

Brayden Townsend led Ridgedale (2-4, 1-2) with 11 of 19 passing for 169 yards, one touchdown and one interception, plus 74 rushing yards on 10 carries and two more TDs. Ashtun Fosnaugh ran four times for 69 yards and a score, while Michael Deas added 44 rushing yards. Landon Murphy caught five passes for 84 yards and the touchdown, while Nathan Thiel had three catches for 43 yards, and J.J. Slaughterbeck had two for 34 yards.

On defense against the Bulldogs (0-6, 0-3), Townsend posted five tackles, two sacks and forced a fumble; Thiel forced a fumble and made five tackles; Logan Rasnick had an interception and five tackles; and Slaughterbeck forced a fumble.

Ridgedale will go to Elgin Friday night for another NWCC game.

Here are some other highlights over the last week with area high school boys sports teams and athletes:

∎ Elgin's Isaac Dillon fired a 79 at Kenton's Veterans Memorial Golf Course to win the third NWCC boys golf tournament of the season, solidifying a first-team spot in the league as well as Player of the Year honors in the conference.

∎ Marion Harding's Jacob Beaschler was medalist with a 36 in a 175-180 loss to Pleasant. Connor McCoy had a 41, Austin Allen a 51 and Rayma Smith a 52 for Harding.

∎ Galion beat River Valley at Kings Mill on senior night for the Vikings, but Lane Kanagy shot a season-low 41 as did Thomas Kaufman. Logan Runyon added a 45 and Jacob Turner a 48 for RV.

North Union defeated Benjamin Logan 184-195 at Liberty Hills in Bellefontaine. Max Parish was medalist for the Wildcats with a 43, while Miles Hall had a 44 as did Wyatt Davis, and Jaxon Jolliff carded a 53. At the Central Buckeye Conference Boys Golf Tournament in Marysville, NU was fifth in the Mad River Division. Hall was second-team all-conference and Jolliff won the team's CBC sportsmanship award.

∎ Highland's Zane Sheets scored a goal off a Caleb Hunter assist in a 2-1 soccer loss to Mansfield Christian.

∎ River Valley outlasted Loudonville 5-3 in soccer with Hudson Pollock scoring twice and assisting twice and Gabe Douce scoring twice and assisting once. Christian Knight had a goal and assist, while Adri Diaz had an assist. J.R. Bates saved six shots for the Vikings.

∎ Marion Harding's Jackson Shipley scored a goal in a 7-1 loss to Centennial, while Jordan Hensley had the goal in a 7-1 loss to Upper Sandusky.

∎ Mount Gilead went to the Strongsville Fleet Feet Invitational and took on some of the biggest and best teams in northeast Ohio. The Indians finished third behind Chardon and Solon in the 23-team, 196-runner event. MG's Will Baker was fourth in 15:49, while Reed Supplee was 14th in 16:08, Parker Bartlett 17th in 16:12, Aaron Gannon 44th in 16:51, Owen Hershner 56th in 17:05, Cole Hershner 112th in 18:24 and Nathan Smith 133rd in 18:55.

∎ North Union was 11th at an invitational at Dublin Jerome. Tyler Huff paced the Wildcats with a fifth place in 17:37.

∎ Cardington was fourth in the small-school race at Malone University. Aidan Reitmire was fourth in 18:18 and followed by teammates' A.J. Brehm (10th, 19:04), Brandon Hughes (18th, 19:47 personal record), Brayden Rammelsberg (27th, 20:35) and Ryan Clinger (47th, 22:13).

∎ Northmor took third at the Bill Brown Invitational in Ontario with Ryan Lehman claiming second place in 17:03, David Blunk getting seventh in 17:24 and Lucas Weaver cracking 10th in 17:31. Also for the Golden Knights, Connor Radojcsics was 27th in 18:15, Levi Hunter 38th in 18:54, Bryce Cooper 57th in 19:43 and Ethan Amens 61st in 19:50.

∎ Pleasant finished sixth in Ontario as Will Lichtenberger was 15th in 17:36, Nick Swartz 26th in 18:10, Caleb Cameron 31st in 18:33, Elijah McGinniss 46th in 19:19, Liam Curtis 66th in 19:59, Jonah Bowdle 76th in 20:14 and Ben Dunham 79th in 20:17.

∎ Marion Harding competed at the Bill Brown and was 10th. Kade Sutherland and Carter Ferguson paced the Presidents by running 17:25 and 17:34 for eighth and 13th respectively. Also running were Peyton Ward (64th, 19:56), Sebastian Swihart (80th, 20:19), Harrison Owings (135th, 25:50) and Kole Gilmore (145th, 29:10).

  • River Valley soccer player Hudson Pollock scored two goals with two assists in a 5-3 win over Loudonville.

  • In last week's poll, Cardington cross country runner Aiden Reitmire earned 272 of 950 votes (29 percent) to win it after finishing 14th in 17:41 in the Division III race at the Galion Cross Country Festival. Other nominees were River Valley cross country's Chase Osborne, Marion Harding cross country's Carter Ferguson, Highland golfer Emerson Grassbaugh, Northmor cross country's Ryan Lehman, Highland soccer's Zane Sheets, Pleasant cross country's Will Lichtenberger and Mount Gilead cross country's Will Baker.
