Boys & Girls Club national leaders visit Valdosta

Sep. 21—VALDOSTA — National officers for the Boys and Girls Club of America visited the local organization in Valdosta Tuesday.

CEO Jim Clark, Vice President of Operations Misty Miller and Director of Organizational Development Taquisha Smith visited the Valdosta units to show support in the aftermath of Hurricane Idalia, a statement from the local Boys & Girls Club said.

"We were truly blessed as an organization not to have any significant structural damages to our buildings," Valdosta Boys & Girls Club CEO Brian Flemming noted at the event. "However, a lot of our families and community members did not have the same experience."

Lowndes County Chairman Bill Slaughter, Valdosta Mayor Scott James Mathesson and Joe Brownlee of Georgia Power gave an update on the hurricane and ongoing recovery for the community before attendees took a tour of the club, the statement said.

The club staff also celebrated the 101st birthday of Jeanette Coody, who had been a volunteer and board member for the Boys & Girls Club of Valdosta for nearly 50 years.
