Boys golf: Holy Family's Rudiger Heitz places fourth at Class 3A state

Oct. 5—DENVER — No one, absolutely no one, was keeping up with Montezuma-Cortez' Thayer Plewe on Tuesday morning at Pinehurst Country Club.

So for Holy Family's Rudiger Heitz to shoot a solid 74 and finish fourth overall at the Class 3A state tournament was a lesson in consistency that might wind up serving him well next year as a senior.

Plewe was simply on fire over the final few holes of his second round of the tournament, carding a 6-under-par 64 on Tuesday to run away with the individual state championship on the Maxwell Course. Plewe's impressive round included a 29 on the back, pushing him five strokes ahead of second place Clint Summers (Resurrection Christian). for the two-round event.

Heitz was great, though. The junior followed a 71 on Monday with his 4-over 74 Tuesday, and that was aided by a couple of solid holes down the stretch and two birdies over the final three holes.

Last year as a sophomore, Heitz was 12th overall, shooting 151 over two days.

Also placing within the top 10 individually was Peak to Peak freshman Jack Brayman, who fell into a tie with four others for fifth place at 8-over 148. Brayman started his second round with a pair of birdies and added another on No. 13 — cutting four strokes off his Monday round to improve his stock.

Om Mathur (Peak to Peak) and Drake Krommenhoek (Holy Family) rounded out the top area performances for the 2022 Class 3A tournament, each finishing within the top 30. Mathus tied with five others for 20th (155) and Krommenhoek was knotted with four others at 29th (157).
