Boys lacrosse: Fairport, Canandaigua advance to state semifinals

Results from Saturday’s New York State boys lacrosse tournament state championship quarterfinals between Section V and Section VI champions:

Class A

Fairport 17, Clarence 4

The Raiders (17-3) opened with six straight goals in the first quarter and led 9-1 at the half en route to a convincing win.

Clarence added another goal in the third but it wasn’t enough to offset the additional five scored by Fairport, which advances to Wednesday’s Class A state semifinal at 4 p.m. at SUNY Cortland. Fairport will play Section III champion Baldwinsville (18-1), the No. 3-ranked Class A team in New York. Fairport is ranked No. 4.

Against Clarence, Bobby Cameron and Kyle Gould each scored three goals and Billy Meagher, Jackson Monte and Brendan Riley each scored two. McLean Ralston made five saves for Fairport, Frazer Boyum made three and Cole Bossarte made two.

Also for Fairport, Chase Rizzo had a goal and an assist, Sam Pucci scored a goal and Cody Kaiser, Josh Knapp and Aiden Arena also scored.

Section V girls sweep Section VI: Girls lacrosse: Rush-Henrietta, Victor, HF-L , Pal-Mac head to state semifinals

Class B

Canandaigua 6, Hamburg 5

The Braves (16-5) held on for the tight win — a Hamburg shot hit the post as time expires — to advance to Wednesday’s 5:30 p.m. semifinal against West Genesee of Section III at SUNY Cortland.

Canandaigua is ranked No. 5 in the state, West Genesee is No. 9.

Class C

Lake Shore/Silver Creek 10, Palmyra-Macedon 4

Pal-Mac (15-3) led 4-2 at the half but was outscored 8-0 in the second.

Logan Babcock had a goal and two assists for the Raiders and Mike Halsey, Keagan Hestery and Quinn Nolan (15 of 17 on faceoffs) each scored one goal while Will Nichols made 14 saves.

Class D

Akron 12, Penn Yan 11

Akron outscored Penn Yan 3-0 in the fourth quarter after the Mustangs scored seven in the third quarter to take an 11-9 lead.

Bryan VanHousen and Caden Dixon each scored three goals for Penn Yan (12-8) and Tukker Fisher and Teagen Fingar each scored two. Griffin Emerson made seven saves and Carter Earl had a goal and two assists.
