Boys lacrosse: Scarsdale rides out storms, advances to NYSPHSAA Class A regional final

Scarsdale pushed a little deeper into uncharted territory.

The Raiders celebrated their first Section 1 title a year ago but the season ended there, so each level of the NYSPHSAA tournament is a new experience for the repeat champions. A storm-delayed 19-7 win over Kingston on Thursday landed them in a Class A regional final.

Next comes a ride up the New York State Thruway.

"Looking at the scoring, seeing it so spread out is exactly how we wanted to be," Scarsdale head coach James Synowiez said. "The weather situation was odd ... Keeping them motivated wasn't easy. We had a conversation about staying sharp and playing Scarsdale lacrosse, and the boys did a good job of dialing it back in today."

Matt Reyman led Scarsdale with four goals and two assists. Several players loaded up on hashmarks in the scorebook. Graydon Diamond and Ryan Ornstein each added three goals and three assists. Jake Goldstein and Colby Baldwin also scored three times. Rhett Needleman finished with two goals and one assist.

There was no shortage of possession time.

Baldwin was again a force on faceoffs, winning 24 of 26 draws for the Raiders, who are 11-1 over the last six weeks.

The game was suspended after storms moved in Thursday.

Scarsdale (13-7) will play on Saturday against Section 2 champion Shenendehowa in a 12:30 p.m. regional final at Shaker High School in Latham.

"It's new to everyone being at this stage of the game," Synowiez added. "They're excited. I think our captains are doing a good job of keeping everyone grounded. Julian Glantz has done a good job holding court and making sure everyone understands what it is we're playing for. They're was some excitement tonight and we're 1-0, but tomorrow we go back to 0-0."
