BOYS ROUNDUP: Tandem propels Lanphier to CS8 home victory

Shaunasy Hatchett knocked down 10 of 17 shots and scored a game-high 25 points and teammate Austin Robinson posted a double-double in Lanphier’s 66-47 Central State Eight Conference boys basketball victory over Rochester on Tuesday at Lober-Nika Gymnasium.

Hatchett finished 4-for-7 from three 3-point range. Robinson dominated the glass, pulling down 19 rebounds — with eight on the offensive end — to go along with 14 points. He made 3 of 5 shots and went 8-for-11 from the free throw line.

JaiQuan Holman chipped in 15 points for Lanphier (3-1 overall, 1-0 in the CS8), which outrebounded Rochester 48-21. The Lions held a slim 9-6 lead after one quarter before outscoring the Rockets 23-9 in the second to lead 32-15 at the break.

Henry Buecker finished 4-for-5 from the field, made 6 of 10 free throws and provided Rochester with a team-high 15 points and four steals. Darrias Christmon made two 3s and scored 10 for the Rockets (1-1, 0-1).

SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 58, JACKSONVILLE 20: At The Bowl in Jacksonville, Zack Hawkinson and Jake Hamilton combined for 35 points and Sacred Heart-Griffin opened the season with a Central State Eight Conference win.

The SHG duo combined to make 16 of 22 shots as Hawkinson scored a game-high 18 points and Hamilton added 17. J’veon Bardwell went 4-for-5 from the floor and dropped in eight points for SHG — the defending Class 3A state champs. The Cyclones started fast and built a 20-6 lead after one quarter.

Amaree Burries scored a team-high nine points for Jacksonville (1-3).

PLEASANT PLAINS 79, CALVARY 42: At Pleasant Plains, Cooper Schallenburg dialed up four 3-pointers and netted a game-high 21 points as Plains recorded a nonconference win.

Schallenburg had three 3s in the first half and 14 points at the break. Zach Powell and Evan Houser (two 3s) also had the hot hand for Plains as both scored 16 points each in the first half and finished with 18 apiece. The Cardinals (2-0) jumped out to a 49-23 lead at halftime. Tristen Gleason made a couple of 3s and chipped in 10 points for Plains.

Amari Anderson and Luke Blackford tallied 13 and 12 points, respectively, to lead Calvary (1-3).

AUBURN 62, CARLINVILLE 32: At the Big House in Carlinville, Talin Kern drained three 3-pointers and scored a game-high 16 points to lead Auburn to a nonconference victory.

The victory gave Auburn coach Seth McCoy his 100th career win. Nathan Barth and Jackson Kern, Talin Kern’s cousin, dropped in 13 points apiece for Auburn, which remained undefeated at 5-0.

Dom Alepra connected on three 3s and led Carlinville (0-1) with nine points.

MOUNT PULASKI 41, WARRENSBURG-LATHAM 38: At Mount Pulaski, Clay Aylesworth provided the Hilltoppers with a game-high 19 points in a nonconference win.

Aylesworth had 11 first-half points and his six points in the fourth quarter helped seal the win. Evan Cooper followed his teammate and scored seven of his 11 points in the second half for Mount Pulaski (1-3).

PANA 63, MOWEAQUA CENTRAL A&M 30: At Moweaqua, Devon Peebles led a Pana surge in the first half and the Panthers secured a season-opening nonconference road win.

Peebles had 14 of his game-high 21 points in the first half as Pana led 39-18 at intermission. Max Lynch also put together a good first half, scoring all 10 of his points before halftime. Ace Armstrong had nine points in the win.

BEARDSTOWN 62, CUBA NORTH FULTON 53: At Cuba, Owen Quigley nailed six 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 18 points as the Tigers picked up a victory.

Beardstown finished with 13 3-point field goals, including eight in the first half when it led 38-24. Elizah Thomas knocked down three 3s and added 15 points, while Isaac Brockschmidt made two from long range and scored 14.

Trent Murray hit two 3s in the first period and scored all eight of his points by halftime.

ATHENS 60, HAVANA 46: At Athens, each player that scored for the Warriors finished in double digits to help win a nonconference season-opening game.

Pryor Reynolds and Camden Austin shared team-high honors in scoring for Athens with 14 points apiece. Teammates Caleb Smith registered 12 points and Zac Laird and Carson Moscardelli followed with 10 each for Athens.

Jaron Boggs and Eli Olson combined for five 3-pointers and scored 11 points apiece for Havana.

HILLSBORO 57, WOODLAWN 45: At the Kaskaskian Classic in Carlyle, Jace Stewart buried 9 of 10 free throws and scored a team-high 22 points and the Hiltoppers improved to 2-0 in the tournament.

Stewart scored 11 points in the first half and went 7-for-8 from the line in the fourth period to finish with 11 second-half points. Blaze Helton tacked on 15 points for Hillsboro.

Chance Phelps led Woodlawn with a game-high 26 points.

In the other tournament game on Tuesday, Flora beat Okawville 38-29.

Hillsboro played Greenville in Wednesday’s second game before place games on Saturday.

MONTICELLO 48, RIVERTON 35: At Monticello’s Arthur Sievers Center, Ethen Bates scored 10 points as the Hawks’ leading scorer in a nonconference loss.

Riverton (0-4) led 6-3 after the first quarter but was outscored 13-9 in the second for a one-point halftime deficit before the Sages opened the second half by outscoring the Hawks 18-10 in the third.

Isaac Crumrine grabbed 12 rebounds for the Hawks while Antonyo Davis had nine. Crumrine and Davis combined for nine offensive boards.

Eli Craft came in off the bench to lead Monticello (1-1) with 15 points. The Sages improved to 7-3 over Riverton.

Monticello finished as the Class 2A runner-up last season, losing to Nashville 32-31 in the title game.

GILLESPIE 49, MOUNT OLIVE 40: At Gillespie, Stan Wargo nailed seven 3-pointers and made all four of his free throws to lead the Miners to a Macoupin County rivalry win.

Wargo finished with 25 points. He made four 3s in the opening period for 12 points and didn’t score again until 11 points in the third quarter with three more 3s.

Jack Kaylor was the Miners’ second-leading scorer with eight points.

Kayveon Kirk led Mount Olive with 12 points. He made all three of the Wildcats’ 3-pointers.
