Boys sectional roundup: Penn claims another sectional crown while Saint Joseph closes in

Add yet another boys tennis trophy to the case at Penn High School as the Kingsmen made it 21 straight sectional titles in impressive fashion Wednesday, topping Marian 5-0 and losing just four games along the way.

Penn lost a total of just four games in topping Marian 5-0 in the sectional finale.

Chris Chen paced Penn with a win at No. 1 singles action. The duo of Petter Klasson and Evan Knapp each won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 and 3 singles play respectively for coach Eric Bower's squad.

The No. 28 Kingsmen advance to the LaPorte Regional Tuesday at Kesling Park. They will play the winner of the South Bend Clay Sectional in the semifinals. The regional final is on Wednesday at LaPorte.

Other sectionals

Another pair of ranked teams earned semifinal wins Wednesday night.

No. 19 Saint Joseph blanked Riley 5-0 in the South Bend Clay Sectional at Leeper Park. St. Joe, which has won 13 straight sectionals, will play Clay Thursday.

No. 18 Goshen continued its unbeaten season by downing Fairfield 4-1 in its own sectional. The RedHawks face Bethany Christian Thursday. Bethany Christian beat NorthWood 3-2.

Bremen, which won sectional and regional titles in 2021, beat Triton 5-0 in its own sectional. The Lions play Plymouth in the finale Thursday.

Northridge and Elkhart earned semifinal wins at the Concord Sectional.

Singles: 1. Carter Snyder (P) beat Noah Dreibelbeis 6-0, 6-3. 2. Alexander Kaser (G) beat Martin Baca Delgado 6-2, 6-0. 3. Jake Stone (P) beat Zachary Litteral 6-0, 6-1.

Doubles: 1. Easton Strain/Matt Manzuk (P) beat Marshall Platz/Landon Johnson 6-0, 6-1. 2. Caleb Bowling/Trey Delp (P) beat Steven Smith/Timothy Park 6-3, 6-0.
