Months of preparation came down to this. The MHSAA boys track & field regionals concluded on Saturday.

Plenty of athletes from the Blue Water Area punched their tickets to the state meet. Here are the individuals that qualified.

DIVISION 2 AT FRANKENMUTH

St. Clair had four athletes advance.

Sam Vitale and Carter Boullard placed first and second, respectively, in the 800 meters. Both Vitale (2:00.2) and Boullard (2:00.14) notched personal records. Vitale also took the 1,600 meters with his own record time of 4:25.97.

"For Sam and Carter to be that 1-2 in the 800 was really cool to watch," St. Clair coach Tom Brenner said. "I'm super happy for them."

The other two Saints were Colton Proctor and Kai Pennewell. Proctor won the 110-meter hurdles (15.57) and the 300-meter hurdles (40.37) with personal records. Pennewell qualified in discus with his own record distance of 153.11 feet.

"(Pennewell) had his best throw of his life today on one of the biggest stages in our sport," Brenner said. "So for him to do that and get a chance to go compete at the state finals is awesome."

St. Clair's 4x800 relay team also qualified with a time of 8:13.69. This group included Vitale, Connor Kreger, David Harris and Boullard.
