Boys' track sectional: Top events, what you need to know for Bloomington area schools

Here's what you need to know and the top events to watch at Thursday's Bloomington North boys' track sectional:

The A-B-C's

Schedule: The sectional will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the field events, with the 3,200 relay at 5:45 and running trials for the 100, 200 and 100 hurdles at 6. Finals begin at 6:45.

Advancement: The top three in each event, and those who meet the state standards, automatically advance to regional. The regional field will be filled with the next four best times/distances from all of the four sectionals that feed into next week's Bloomington North Regional.

Participating teams: Bloomington North, Bloomington South, Edgewood, Eastern Greene, Lighthouse Christian, Bloomfield, Brown County, Linton, Martinsville, Owen Valley, Shakamak, White River Valley. North or South have claimed a sectional title every year since 1990 (Seymour).

110 and 300 hurdles

South sophomore D'Andre Black and North junior Broc Murphy have gone back-and-forth all year and they are two of the best in the state. Black is the top seed in both events (and close to both of his school records), but Murphy is less than .15 behind.

800/1,600

North junior Kyle Clark has pulled off several impressive mid-distance doubles here in the last three weeks. He's running well with teammates Quincy Slaper (800) and Nolan Bailey (1,600), giving the Cougars two under two minutes in the 800 and 4:20 in the 1,600.
