BPD officer placed on administrative leave

A Bedford Police Department officer is on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.

BPD Chief Terry Moore informed the Bedford Board of Works & Safety Monday that he placed Capt. Tim Chen on leave Aug. 10. Chen is a 17-year member of the police force.

Following the meeting, Moore said pending the outcome of an internal investigation into a departmental violation, Moore will return to the Board of Works with a follow-up recommendation regarding Chen's status. No other details were released.

One-way alley request

A request to make an alley behind Lincoln Plaza Pharmacy one way was approved. The pharmacy wants to add a pharmacy drive-thru window as a convenience to customers and requested the alley direction to be changed.

Moore said he reviewed the alley and recommended the change to one-way heading south, which was approved.

In other business

The board approved the insurance renewal proposal for property, liability, auto and worker compensation. The annual premium is $412,850.

Street Commissioner Dave Flinn received approval to use Beam Longest & Neff for engineering services to prepare the pave road assessment at a cost of $15,000. The assessment is needed when the city applies for state and federal grants for street improvements and also indicates streets that need improved.

TASC Director Dennis Parsley presented an updated drug and alcohol policy for TASC employees, a contract for toxicology services and an agreement with White River Lodge to provide evacuation services in case of emergency. All were approved.

Bedford Mayor Sam Craig officiated at the swearing-in of Bedford's newest police officer, Taylor Daugherty.

J Street between 15th and 16th streets will be closed Sept. 24 from 3-8:30 p.m. for the Men's Warming Shelter spaghetti dinner.
