Brace Yourselves for a Double Dose of Lisbeth Salander!

For those of you salivating for more Lisbeth Salander since the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo -- the novel and the film -- became an international sensation somewhere between 2009 and the present, the wait is over because this summer gets a double whammy injection of the laconic badass tattooed girl.
First up, the trailer is out for The Girl Who Played with Fire, the second film in the series based on Swedish novelist Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy about the interplay between a seasoned journalist, Mikael Blomkvist (Michael Nykvist), and the internet hacker, research genius and enigmatic bisexual post feminist Salander (Noomi Rapace) who become caught up in various webs of intrigue. Thanks to AfterEllen for bringing the trailer to my attention, as I have been obsessed since seeing Niels Arden Oplev's visceral filmic depiction of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, albeit viewing some of the more brutal parts through my fingers.
Director Daniel Alfredson's The Girl Who Played with Fire is set to hit theaters in major U.S. cities on July 2nd according to the New York Times' Summer Movie special.
For those who missed the first film and or novel in the series, and who can stomach a couple of short but absolutely brutal scenes involving rape and revenge, run to the nearest book store and / or art cinema to read and / or see the film as Dragon Tattoo is still gracing the art house circuit. And then brace yourselves for the The Girl Who Played with Fire.
Next, the final book in the trilogy, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest hits American bookstores, Amazon, Kindle...what have you on May 25. For aficionados, you'll want to savor that one as Stieg Larsson died of a massive heart attack at age 50 in 2004 and this is his final novel.
However, fans can expect incarnations for ages as all three films have been signed on to American remakes. I know can you say La Femme Nikita v. Point of No Return? There's no comparison but at least rumored casting for the American Dragon Tattoo looks a tad curious as imdb has Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Johnny Depp and An Education's Carey Mulligan all getting plugged for the lead roles. Meanwhile, David Fincher of Seven, Fight Club and Zodiac fame is slated to direct.
So read and watch and bone on your Lisbeth Salander. She's officially entered the pop culture simulacrum.
