Bracket set for Big 12 men’s basketball tournament

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KSNT) – The madness will tick a few levels higher next week in Kansas City as the Big 12 men’s basketball tournament gets underway on Tuesday, March 12.

The Big 12 released the official bracket for the conference tournament on Saturday, after the final regular season league games wrapped up.

Houston, who won the league outright, is the top seed. The Cougars are one of four teams receiving a two-round bye. Iowa State, Texas Tech and Baylor also won’t have to play until Thursday.

On the opposite end, the conference’s bottom four teams must play on Tuesday. The tournament will begin with Oklahoma State vs UCF (11:30 a.m.) and West Virginia vs Cincinnati (2 p.m.) on March 12.

K-State and KU both fall in the middle of the two, getting into action on Wednesday, March 13. KU is the six-seed and will play the winner of the Mountaineers and Bearcats. K-State is seeded tenth and will play No. 7 seed Texas.

The Wildcats play at 6 p.m. on Wednesday with the Jayhawks closing out day two’s action with an 8:30 p.m. start.

If KU wins its first game, it will play Baylor. If K-State wins its first game, the ‘Cats will play Iowa State.

Kansas State finished the regular season 18-13 overall and 8-10 in Big 12 play, having upset No. 6 Iowa State in its final regular season game. Meanwhile, KU was stomped by Houston to end the regular season and finished 22-9 overall, 10-8 in Big 12 play.
