Bracket set for South Dakota American Legion baseball state tournament
The field is set for the American Legion baseball state tournament.
Rapid City will host the eight-team championship, with games set to start Wednesday and run through Sunday. The double-elimination tournament takes place at Fitzgerald Stadium, home of Rapid City Post 22, the 43-time state champions.
Brookings is the No. 1 seed and will take on eighth-seeded Pierre on Wednesday in the tournament opener. The Bandits will be looking for their first state title since 2012. Post 22 is the No. 2 seed, followed by third-seeded Mitchell, fourth-seeded Brandon Valley, Sioux Falls Post 15 East at No. 5, Rapid City Post 320 as the 6-seed, and Harrisburg seeded seventh.

Post 15 East was the state runner-up last year. Renner, the defending state champion, did not qualify for state this summer. Post 22 has won six titles since 2013. Pierre was the only team besides Renner or the Hardhats to win a title in the last eight years when they took the 2017 championship. Sioux Falls last won it in 2011 when East was victorious.
Rapid City will also host the Central Plains Regional this summer, from Aug. 3-7 at Fitzgerald Stadium.
