Tampa’s Pig Jig will once again have an A-list lineup of music, announcing Monday that Grammy winners Brad Paisley and Amanda Shires will perform at the barbecue fundraiser at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park later this year.

The lineup also includes country stars Riley Green (“There Was This Girl”), the Seattle band The Head and the Heart and the duo Shovels & Rope.

The Tampa Pig Jig will be Oct. 21, and tickets go on sale May 19 at 10 a.m. General admission is $125, VIP is $275. Children 10 and younger are free. See tampapigjig.com.

The barbecue contest started a dozen years ago when a band of childhood friends from South Tampa decided to hold a fundraiser for research into a friend’s kidney disease. It has grown into one of the area’s biggest events — and the single largest donor for research into focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, also known as FSGS.

When the event started in 2011, there were few treatments and no cure for the disease contracted by Will Wellman, a Tampa native who is now a youth pastor. There are now nearly 60 clinical trials, largely funded by NephCure Kidney International, whose largest annual donor is the Tampa Pig Jig. The event has raised more than $7 million in the past decade for rare kidney diseases that affect fewer than 200,000 Americans and therefore get little attention from drug companies.
