In a recent conversation featured on Gwyneth Paltrow's lifestyle website, Goop, she and her ex-fiancé Brad Pitt reflected on their relationship and their personal history, over 20 years on. And as Father's Day is looming, the pair touched on Brad's bond with Gwyneth's late father, Bruce Paltrow, who passed away in 2002.

The 49-year-old said: "Okay, since it's almost Father's Day, I'm going to ask you about Bruce. I'll never forget when we were engaged and he came to me one day, his eyes full of tears, and he said, 'You know, I never really realised what they mean when they say you're gaining a son. Like, I'm gaining a son.' What impact did he have on you? Why did you love him, even though we didn't get married, unfortunately?"

Even though the couple called it quits way back in 1997, Brad noted how he still held a special place in his heart for Bruce, and how he had a profound effect on him. Speaking to Gwyneth, he said that Bruce "really fostered your voice, your independence. He carved the way for you guys to be who you are. And I think that's so important to parenting, you know?" He then added: "So the child is free to find out who they are and what they love and what they don't. You guys were just so free in your conversations. And witty. And intelligent. And funny as f--k."

While the acting legends reminisced on times gone by, we all know they moved on and went to marry other people, have children, and lead their own lives - obviously very publicly. In 2003, Gwyneth married Coldplay's frontman, Chris Martin, and the pair had two children together, Apple and Moses, before they went their separate ways in 2014. These days, Gwyneth has found happiness with another Brad, writer Brad Falchuk, who she married in 2018.

And famously, Brad went on to marry Friends star Jennifer Aniston from 2000 to 2005, before he began a relationship with his Mr & Mrs Smith co-star, Angelina Jolie. While the pair share six children together, they too called it quits back in 2016.

But even though this trip down memory lane massively broke the nostalgia flood gates, Brad was quick to add: "Oh man, everything works out, doesn't it?" To which his Se7en co-star agreed and joked: "Yes, it does. I finally found the Brad I was supposed to marry. It just took me 20 years."

Despite their relationship ending back in the late 90s, Brad made sure to note how it's "lovely" that he and Gwyneth are still friends. He said: "And I do love you," to which she replied: "I love you so much."

We love to see it.
