Bradenton’s first Sprouts Farmers Market grocery store now has an opening date

Any construction timetable since the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic can be an iffy thing.

But the planned Bradenton Sprouts Farmers Market now lists a June 30 opening date on its website and has scheduled a hiring fair.

Manatee County’s first Sprouts location is going into Cortez Plaza at 1205 Cortez Road W., at the intersection with 14th Street West.

The company filed paperwork in late 2021 with Manatee County Building Services for a “full store remodel of existing space for new Sprouts.”

A Sprouts spokesman confirmed earlier this year that it would open its first store in the area in the third quarter of 2023.

Workers were on the construction site Monday, finishing the interior of the store. Although no signage has yet gone up, the facade is complete with a silhouette of a barn roof.

In its first quarter earnings report, Sprouts reported that it opened eight new stores, closed one, and acquired two previously licensed stores, resulting in 395 stores in 23 states as of April 2.

The Phoenix-based Sprouts Farmers Markets feature an open layout with fresh produce at the heart of the stores.

“The healthy grocer continues to bring the latest in wholesome, innovative products made with lifestyle-friendly ingredients such as organic, plant-based and gluten-free,” the company said.

Sprouts employs approximately 35,000 team members and operates stores in 23 states.

Sprouts hiring fair

Sprouts Farmers Market is planning to hire 100 people to open their new store in Bradenton and is holding a hiring fair with walk-in interviews 8-11:30 a.m. and 1-6 p.m. Wednesday, May 17.

The interviews are scheduled for the Hilton Garden Inn Sarasota-Bradenton Airport, 8270 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.

Attendees will have an opportunity to speak with the Sprouts’ hiring team on available team member and leadership roles within departments such as front end, Bakery, deli, grocery, meat/seafood, produce, vitamins and more.

An attractive market for groceries

Sprouts is one of the newest entrants in the Bradenton market.

Trader Joe’s announced last week that it plans to open a store in The Shoppes at University Town Center, near the intersection of Interstate 75 and University Parkway. The planned store at 8473 Cooper Creek Blvd. would be the first Trader Joe’s in Manatee County.

Detwiler’s Farm Market recently announced plans for its sixth store in the Bradenton-Sarasota area. The planned store in 3500 block of 53rd Avenue West would be its first in West Bradenton.

Detwiler’s is a home grown, family-owned company with stores from Palmetto in the north to Venice in the south.

Also aggressively opening new stores in the Bradenton area is Aldi with seven stores opened or planned, and Publix, which has opened 19 stores in Manatee County.

A Publix planned to anchor North River Ranch’s Market Walk shopping center in Parrish would be the company’s 20th in Manatee County.

The planned Publix at Market Walk, 11635 Moccasin Wallow Road, would be a free-standing store with an open courtyard design and other free-standing retailers on the surrounding parcels.
