Bradenton hit-and-run leaves pedestrian in critical condition

A pedestrian was struck in a hit-and-run crash after crossing the street outside of the crosswalk, where it is not permitted, according to police.

Just before 6 p.m. Tuesday, witnesses reported a crash near the 900 block of 1st St. W. in Bradenton. As the pedestrian attempted to cross the street outside of the crosswalk, cars in two of the three travel lanes slowed to avoid hitting the pedestrian. The vehicle in the third lane was unable to slow down in time, according to Bradenton Police.

The vehicle that hit the pedestrian and fled is described as a white Chevrolet Tahoe with dark tinted windows and chrome rims. The vehicle is expected to have heavy front-end damage.

The pedestrian remains in critical condition at a local hospital.
