Bradley Cooper was reportedly “emotionally absent” from girlfriend Irina Shayk while working on his film A Star Is Born.

Cooper directed the Oscar-nominated musical romance and starred as troubled musician Jackson Maine, whose career is on the wane while his protégée Ally (played by Lady Gaga) rises to the top.

“Bradley was emotionally absent during the long time filming A Star Is Born,” a source told PEOPLE. “They tried to save the relationship but it had changed.”

Cooper and Shayk, who are thought to have parted ways after four years together, previously chose to keep their relationship out of the spotlight, and the source added that their emphasis on privacy meant that “few knew” that there was “something going on”.

“Since Bradley and Irina have always been very private about their relationship few knew there was really for sure something going on,” they told the US publication.

Standard Online has contacted representatives for Cooper and Shayk for further comment.

A separate report published by PEOPLE last week claimed that the couple are working on how to share custody of their daughter Lea De Seine, who was born in 2017.

Chemistry: Gaga and Cooper were praised for their Oscars performance (Reuters)

Cooper and Gaga’s intense performance of A Star Is Born track Shallow at this year’s Academy Awards prompted viewers to hail the co-stars for their chemistry, and fans have since voiced their hopes that the pair will embark on a romance.

The singer appeared to hit back at speculation during a performance in Las Vegas over the weekend.

Before singing the Oscar-winning hit as part of her Enigma residency, Gaga reportedly told the audience: “And one more thing, be kind. Be kind or f*** off.”

The star previously addressed the rumours during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live shortly after the Academy Awards, telling the late night host that she and Cooper had “wanted” viewers to see “love” because their film was “a love story.”

“First of all, social media quite frankly is the toilet of the Internet and what it has done to pop culture is abysmal,” she told Kimmel.

“And people saw love, and guess what, that’s what we wanted you to see. This is a love song, the movie is a love story.”
