Bradley J Fischer Joins Brian Oliver’s New Republic Pictures as President and Chief Content Officer

Bradley J. Fischer, a producer on “Zodiac,” “Shutter Island” and this year’s “Ready or Not,” has signed a multi-year deal with Brian Oliver’s New Republic Pictures and will become President and Chief Content Officer at the production company, it was announced Thursday.

Fischer will produce all New Republic projects in film, TV and streaming alongside Oliver, and Fischer will continue to produce his pre-existing projects, including an adaptation of a Stephen King (which King wrote under the pseudonym Richard Bachman) novel “The Long Walk” at New Line and “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” at Amblin. Fischer also remains a majority owner of Mythology Entertainment, the company he co-founded in 2011.

Oliver and Fischer first worked together on “Black Swan” as directed by Darren Aronofsky, which was nominated for Best Picture and took home an Oscar for Natalie Portman while grossing $330 million worldwide.

“I could not be more excited to partner with Brad in New Republic. He has great relationships and taste in material and I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to work with him over the last decade on many projects including ‘Black Swan.’ Brad brings with him a diverse development slate that will help bolster New Republic’s lineup of upcoming films and television projects,” Oliver said in a statement.

“Brian is among the best producers and financiers I’ve had the privilege of working with, as well as a great friend; and we have been threatening to collaborate more formally since we did ‘Black Swan’ together 10 years ago,” Fischer said in a statement. “When he and Val reached out to me about helping build New Republic, which is already off to an enviable start, it was an obvious yes.”

Reporting to Oliver, Fischer and COO Valery An are vice president of development John Hilary Shepherd, vice president of acquisitions Angus Sutherland, vice president of production, B.J. Farmer and creative executives Courtney Shepard and Matthew Quigg.

Oliver’s New Republic Pictures launched in May 2018 and financed the Elton John biopic “Rocketman,” which was the first film in its first-look co-financing and distribution deal with Paramount, and the upcoming “1917” from director Sam Mendes.

The company is committed to financing and producing at least four wide release films in 2020 and six more in 2021 with budgets ranging up to and above $100 million. The company recently won a bidding war for the rights to “Undiscovered Country,” based on a graphic novel from Image Comics. And in April the company signed a first look deal with Michael Fassbender and Conor McCaughan’s production company DMC.

New Republic was represented in the deal by Lindsay Connor of Mannatt Phelps. Alan Epstein and Paul Bernstein of Venable, and Harold Brown of Gang Tyre represent Fischer.
