OAK HARBOR - A 16-year-old girl from Bradner died Tuesday after she failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign and her pickup was hit by a semitrailer at Ohio 163 near Oak Harbor in Ottawa County, the Ohio Highway Patrol reported.

Skylar Roberts was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on North Toussaint Portage Road when she went through the stop sign at Ohio 163 at 12:08 p.m. and her pickup was struck by an eastbound 1996 Kenworth commercial truck driven by John Kunkel, 58, of Howard, Ohio, the patrol said in a news release.

Both the pickup and semi went off the north side of Ohio 163 and both vehicles struck a westbound 2020 Ford van driven by Michael Hudson, 36, of Bedford, according to the patrol.

Roberts, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Kunkel and Hudson suffered minor injuries and were transported to St. Charles Mercy Hospital in Toledo by Portage Fire and EMS, the news release said.

Kunkel was wearing a seatbelt; Hudson was not wearing one, the patrol said.

Alcohol is not a factor in the crash and no charges have been filed, according to the news release, which added that the crash remains under investigation.

Assisting the highway patrol at the scene were the Portage Fire Department and EMS, Ohio Department of Transportation, Ottawa County Coroner's Office, Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, Oak Harbor Police, and Bubba's Towing.
