Brady Bunch Stars Open Up About A Very Brady Renovation

The cast is teaming up with HGTV personalities like the Property Brothers and Jasmine Roth for the overhaul of the TV series' iconic Studio City house

In the more than four decades since The Brady Bunch officially went off air, fans have looked back at the show with fond memories and nostalgia. Now, thanks to a new HGTV series, A Very Brady Renovation, viewers can revisit the house where it all happened alongside the very faces that made it a home: actors Maureen McCormick (Marcia), Barry Williams (Greg), Christopher Knight (Peter), Eve Plumb (Jan), Mike Lookinland (Bobby), and Susan Olsen (Cindy).

On a recent visit to the Studio City site, Entertainment Tonight spoke with the actors, who are helping to gut renovate the house to resemble their on-set home (all interior shots from the hit series were filmed on a sound stage in Burbank). “This is therapy,” McCormick says in a clip from the visit, while knocking down a wall alongside Hidden Potentials’ Jasmine Roth. “It’s so great because it’s such a group effort, you know?” she adds. “Everybody’s doing their bit.”

Among the main renovations that the house will undergo is an expansion of 2,000 square feet to the home’s original footprint, the addition of the iconic floating stairs just opposite the main entrance, and a number of planters in the backyard (some of which have since been converted into hot tubs). Lookinland comments to ET that he had actually never set foot inside the home much prior to that demolition day. “Only one time previously in my life prior to today,” he says, staring at the house in apparent wonder.

The 2,500-square-foot, ’70s style house first hit the market back in July 2018, its first time in 45 years. The asking price was $1.885 million, a substantial amount more than the $61,000 that the previous owners paid for it in 1973. HGTV famously entered a bidding war with Lance Bass, who also wanted to acquire the home, ultimately winning out with a high bid of $3.5 million, and announced its plans to work with the Brady cast for a serious renovation shortly afterward. Other HGTV talents who will help out with the renovation include Good Bones stars Mina Starsiak and Karen Laine, Restored by the Fords’ Leanne and Steve Ford, Flea Market Flip’s Lara Spencer, and of course, the Property Brothers’ Drew and Jonathan Scott.

The hardest part of the renovation thus far, the brothers told ET, has been tracking down some of the more retro items from the show that are no longer even available for purchase. “It’s really challenging because, unfortunately, so many of the things are gone,” she said, listing off retro appliances, decorations, and interior design touches. Williams previously told ET that some of the items he’s looking to bring back are “beaded curtains” and “a lava lamp.”
