Brady Maciak's breakthrough season helps Walsh reach NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament

Walsh outfielder Brady Maciak is the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Baseball Freshman of the Year.

Maciak hit a team-leading .365 to help the Cavaliers reach the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time. He hit seven home runs, tripled twice, recorded 17 doubles and drove in 34 runs.

During the season, Maciak has had 21 multi-hit games, a 16-game hitting streak and a 30-game on-base streak.

Pitcher Brant Alazaus is Walsh's first team All-G-MAC selection. Maciak, outfielder Joey Holiga and pitcher Drew Saunier are on the second team. Utility player Jarret Lyon earned third team honors.

Incristi, Massey named Clyde Lamb Award winners

Seniors Aurelia Incristi and David Massey are Mount Union's Clyde Lamb Award winners for the 2021-22 academic year.

The Clyde Lamb Award is presented to the top male and female scholar athletes at the Ohio Athletic Conference's 10 institutions.

A four-year letterwinner and 12-time All-OAC swimmer, Incristi won conference titles in the 50-yard freestyle in 2020 and 100 in 2021. She had a 4.0 GPA as a biochemistry and pre-medicine major and was a three-time Academic All-OAC selection. She was part of the honors program and was a presidential scholar at Mount Union.

Massey won 110 wrestling matches, the second most in Purple Raiders history. The three-year captain was named the 2022 OAC Wrestler of the Year, a two-time All-American and a three-time National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American.

An exercise science major with a 3.92 GPA, Massey plans to attend graduate school and earn a doctorate in physical therapy.

Malone's Williams finishes career at NCAAs

Christina Williams closed out her Malone career by tying for 35th at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships.

Williams shot 74 in the final round to finish with a three-day total of 229. It is the second-best 54-hole score in Pioneers history behind the 221 she recorded at this year's regional tournament.

"For Christina, this was the culmination of an incredible effort as a young junior circuit player, a great high school player and an exceptional Division II career,: Malone head coach Bill Eddins said. "Her legacy will serve as an inspiration and motivation to achieve higher levels of success in the program."

Wertz takes over Pioneers swimming program

Former Malone freestyle record holder Nicholas Wertz has been named the Pioneers' head swimming and diving coach.

Wertz set records in the 1,000 and 1,650-yard freestyles at Malone. He served as an assistant coach this past season.

In addition to setting a pair of school records, Wertz was the Great Midwest Athletic Conference-Mountain East Conference 1,650 champion in 2020.

Mount Union's Heath, Rose named all-region

Mount Union's Grace Heath and Alyssa Rose are on this year's National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III All-Region VII Team.

Heath was selected to the first team. She broke the Purple Raiders single-season record for triples with 10 and hit .428 with three home runs, 22 RBIs and 41 stolen bases.

Rose is on the third team. The Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Year hit .362 with eight homers and 43 RBIs. In 19 appearances as a pitcher, she finished 9-3 with a 2.36 ERA and 85 strikeouts in 95 innings.

Four Raiders earn All-OAC men's lacrosse honors

Mount Union's Alek Kungle, Logan Gebhart, Kyle Reihner and Connor Addison are on this year's All-Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Team.

Kungle earned second team honors. Kungle, Gebhart, Reihner and Addison made honorable mention.

Kungle, the Purple Raiders' leading scorer with 39 goals and 48 points, became an All-OAC selection for the fourth time.
