Braintree board revokes license for proposed tavern on Washington Street

BRAINTREE  – More than two years after it was granted, the town's license board has revoked a liquor license for a proposed tavern in Braintree Square.

Stacey Dam acquired the liquor license of the former Viking Club on Quincy Avenue and received board approval to transfer the license to 356 Washington St., the former Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. Dam had hoped to open "Stacey's Tavern," but. said she was having trouble obtaining financing for needed kitchen renovations.

In April, Dam's attorney Louis Cassis said she was dropping plans for the business, and was seeking to sell the license.

In a letter to the board, Cassis said Dam had listed the license with a restaurant broker but was unable to find a buyer. He said  because the town has liquor licenses available, Dam's license "has little or no value," a condition Cassis does not expect to change in the foreseeable future.

The license board voted 4-0 Tuesday  to revoke the license because it was not in use. Police Chief Mark DuBois did not attend the meeting.

The board also approved a restaurant license for the Doorknock Dinner, a 16-seat restaurant inside the office building at 300 Granite St.
