Braintree Mid-Autumn Festival has a new date

BRAINTREE – The town's first Mid-Autumn Festival is now set for 3-7 p.m. Oct. 1 at French's Common, adjacent to town hall.

The event was postponed from Sept. 10 due to rain.

One of the most important holidays on the Chinese calendar, the Mid-Autumn Festival dates back 3,000 years. Also known as the Moon Festival or the Mooncake Festival, it marks the time when the full moon is highest and brightest, coinciding with the autumn harvest.

The event will feature a variety of cultural activities and performances, including traditional lion and dragon dances and lantern making workshops. There will be vendors, food, music and games. Admission is free.

The festival is sponsored by the Chinese American Association of Braintree, Mayor Charles Kokoros and the Braintree Recreation Department.
