Branch County prosecutor's office gets third attorney

BRANCH COUNTY — Circuit Judge Bill O’Grady swore Emily Mowry into the Michigan Bar Monday afternoon in his courtroom.

The 30-year-old Pennsylvania native became the third attorney in prosecutor Zack Stempien’s office.

Mowry graduated from Dickinson Law School at Penn State University, served as a law clerk for a year, then represented children in West Virginia courts for a nonprofit law firm two years before moving to Branch County this summer.

Stempien expects to use Mowry mostly in the probate court juvenile division.

Mowry and her husband, Alexander, met as undergraduates at Patrick Henry College in Virginia.

After he finished his master’s degree at West Virginia University, they bought and moved into his family’s 1850s farmhouse in Sherwood with their almost 2-year-old daughter.

Alexander Mowry is a political consultant.

Mowry’s hiring fills the current staff for Stempien, who requested a fourth prosecutor position in his 2024 budget from the Branch County Commission.
