For some people, their last few days at a job before leaving for another job can be fairly uneventful. Boring, even.

Brandon Sosna, a Sycamore High School graduate and former chief revenue officer for the Cincinnati Bearcats, is saying goodbye to the University of Southern California as the Trojans leave the Pac-12 for the Big Ten along with the UCLA Bruins in what many consider a stunning development Thursday in college sports.

From Sosna - who has served as USC's executive senior associate athletic director and became the senior director of football administration for the NFL's Detroit Lions - via Twitter:

ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that USC "made a significant push to keep" Sosna.

Sosna came to USC in 2019 with athletic director Mike Bohn from the University of Cincinnati, becoming the Trojans' chief of staff for athletics. In a tweet announcing his move, Sosna called his final year at UC "the most professionally fulfilling and fun year of my life."

From Bohn via Twitter on Thursday:

Last November, Bohn called Sosna the architect of SC's search that landed head football coach Lincoln Riley. He was named to Forbes' "30 Under 30 2020: Sports."

Sosna was UC's chief of staff when Luke Fickell was hired as the Bearcats' head coach in Dec. 2016. He left UC in Aug. 2017 to join the Cleveland Browns and became a salary cap and contract analyst, but returned to the Bearcats in Feb. 2019.

Sosna worked in Cleveland with John Dorsey, then the general manager of the Browns and now a senior personnel executive for the Lions, which finished last season 3-13-1.
