When U.K.-based husband-and-wife team Frieda Gormley and Javvy M. Royle launched House of Hackney in 2011, the brand's unabashedly maximalist, so-uncool-they're-cool reinterpretations of old-school English motifs—this was four years before Alessandro Michele took the reins at Gucci, it's worth noting—quickly drew a global cult following beyond its native London. (Famous fans include the likes of Kate Moss, Poppy Delevingne and Halsey.)

Now, House of Hackney has finally the jump across the pond with its first U.S. showroom (or, as it's being touted, gallery) in Nolita. And, yes, it's just as gloriously extra as one might imagine.

Tucked away behind antiques shop Elizabeth Street Gallery in an 1850s firehouse, the space is an over-the-top jumble of pattern, texture and fringe—lots of fringe. Between the jewel-toned cut velvet (a new addition for fall 2019), William Morris-esque wallpaper prints and leopard-spotted upholstery, it all seems like something you might find in your great-grandmother's drawing room until you realize that—oh wait—that's a dinosaur at the base of that table lamp.

Fans of instant gratification may be disappointed to learn that store doesn't hold any stock (instead, you place an order directly from the House of Hackney warehouse in the U.K.), but the good news is that it's open to the public, so you don't have to go through a designer if you want a few yards of serpent-print wallpaper. They do, however, offer access to their in-house design consultancy, which has worked on A-list projects like Kate Moss's country house.

Can't make it to New York? Later this fall, you'll also be able to shop House of Hackney at a select number of Neiman Marcus locations—just in time for the holiday season.
