Brandywine wins ninth straight BCS girls tennis tournament

BERRIEN SPRINGS — Brandywine's girls tennis team is still the dominant force in the BCS.

The Bobcats won their ninth straight BCS (Berrien, Cass, St. Joseph) conference championship Thursday with a near-perfect effort. Joe Marazita's team won seven of the eight flights, losing only at No. 1 singles when Jessica Williamson had to default from heat stroke with a 6-2, 4-5 score.

Brandywine finished with 47 points to beat out Buchanan, which was second with 41. The Bobcats also were 5-0 in league duals to win the overall crown.

"It was just a great team effort," Marazita said. "We darn near won them all. Hannah (Earles) just cruised at No. 2 singles (losing just two games in two matches) as did our No. 1 doubles team of Abbie Hubbard and Emma Hinsey (lost two games in two matches) and No. 3 doubles team of Chloe Sidenbender and Dani Holden. We're proud of how well our entire team played and supported each other."

Earles, No. 3 singles player Mari Allen and No. 4 singles player Courtney Bates are now all 19-0. And Hubbard and Hinsey are also 19-0.

Brandywine should garner most of the top seeds for next Wednesday's Division 4 regional, which will be held at both Brandywine and Berrien Springs.
