Branford, a Grammy-winning jazz musician, is set to replace his father, Ellis Marsalis, in his former role.

Ellis, who was also a jazz artist, died in 2020 due to complications from COVID-19. Ellis was a jazz artist, educator, founder of the University of New Orleans jazz studies program and a partner in the development of EMCM.

Leaders with the EMCM said that the center, located in the Musicians Village, serves as a community hub that provides educational opportunities and programming to the Ninth Ward neighborhood.

The center has been in operation since 2012 and offers a performance hall, recording studio, technology center, listening library, dance studio and teaching facilities.
