Brave Brawlers win Rocky Mountain Classic

Jan. 14—MISSOULA — Make that four tournament wins for the Flathead Brave Brawlers.

The Braves added another win to their list by winning the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic at Sentinel High School on Saturday.

Flathead has also won the Mining City Duals, Tri-State and Pacific Northwest Classic this year.

"Flathead wrestling is just rolling right now," Flathead coach Jeff Thompson said. "The Rocky is always going to be one of those tournaments that we want to put in our best performance at every year. There are a lot of bragging rights with winning the Rocky. It has most of the toughest teams in Montana with some of the best from Washington, Idaho, and Wyoming sprinkled in the mix."

The Braves had individual champions in Anders Thompson (170), Noah Poe-Hatten (182). Both earned pins in their respective championship matches.

Flathead had five wrestlers make it to the finals, including Cade Troupe (152) who lost an 8-4 decision to Columbia Falls' Justin Windauer. Gabe Lake was pinned by Missoula Big Sky's Israel Moreno in the 160 final, and Sawyer Troupe was pinned by Brendan Lockhart of Great Falls High in the 205 final.

Glacier's Teegan Vasquez continued his unbeaten season with another win at 132. He pinned Kip Pumnea of Butte in 1:14 for the win.

Jace DeShazer (205) was third after pinning Billings West's Solomon Stortz in the third place match.

Billings West nipped at Flathead's heels but ended up second with 217.5 points. Havre was next with 159.5, and Great Falls was fourth.

The Wolfpack finished 12th, and Columbia Falls was 13th.
