Rise and shine, Roseville!

We're half way through the work week and you need to get caught up on worth knowing around town today.

Let's get to it!

First, today's weather:

Unusually high temps are in store again today with an expected high of 84 degrees. It will cool down overnight to about 52. Winds out of the southwest should be in the 5-10 mph range.

Here are the top five stories in Roseville today:

  1. "Bald is beautiful” takes on a whole new meaning when folks raise money for pediatric cancer research by volunteering to have their heads shaved. The hair hits the floor Saturday at the 20th Annual Brave the Shave on the Promenade at the Roseville Galleria, who has partnered with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance for the event. There’s still time to sign up to participate, or you can show your support on Saturday by cheering on those facing the shears. (Roseville Today and KCRA 3)

  2. Our region will soon have another entertainment venue to choose from when the new Hard Rock Live opens on June 3. Located adjacent to the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Wheatland, the indoor auditorium’s 2,500 seats will include VIP boxes and balcony options. Tickets go on sale Friday for the opening night act, Grammy award winning Maroon 5. A seat at the show will set you back $100; or $400 if you want the front row. 3. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento is one of 84 chapters that will benefit from a $436 million donation from MacKenzie Scott. The local chapter will receive $4.5 million, no strings attached, to aid in its efforts to address the shortage of affordable housing in the Sacramento region. Scott is best known for her generous philanthropy, and for her former marriage to Amazon executive Jeff Bezos. (subscription: Sacramento Business Journal and ABC 10)

  4. Placer County District 5 Supervisor Cindy Gustafson had good news to share about Placer County as she addressed members of the Friends of the Auburn Library Friday with a State of the County presentation. According to Gustafson, Placer is “healthy, wealthy and wise.” Check out this summary of the address, including an overview of several areas where our county is moving and shaking. 5. Just as California is loosening some of its pandemic restrictions, a new COVID-19 variant is traipsing its way across the state. Labelled subvariant BA.2, this new varietal is sparking questions from Californians who were looking forward to a break from masks and social distancing. Find out what you need to know about this latest iteration of coronavirus in this informative article. (Patch Media)

  • The Roseville Coalition of Neighborhood Associations (RCONA) wants to make your Spring cleaning a breeze this year. (If you are a local angler with a boat, the event is still looking for volunteers to take the kiddos out on the lake.) (CAST website and 105.1 KNCI Facebook)

  • Good News - you can still get tickets for A Touch of Understanding’s (ATOU) biggest fundraiser of the year, An Evening of Insight, happening Thursday, March 31. Not your ordinary dinner, the evening will give you a view to what it is like to live without sight. This adventure offers a peek at what ATOU does throughout the year as they visit area schools, businesses and other groups to raise awareness about the lives of people with disabilities. Tickets are $100, or $700 for a table of eight, and you’ll have an opportunity to bid on some great auction items. (ATOU website)
