Among the many incoming students joining Florida A&M University in the fall will be Alaura Kimes — the daughter of Bravo reality TV show “Married to Medicine” star Dr. Heavenly Kimes, a well-known cosmetic dentist and FAMU alumna.

As 17-year-old Alaura from Atlanta, Georgia gets ready to follow in her mother's footsteps, she plans to major in biology on a pre-med track.

A flood of support and excitement came on social media after an Instagram post that Alaura shared May 1 during College Decision Day, which is when applicants publicly announce their commitment to a college or university.

The post, which shows a video of Alaura walking on the university’s campus with a FAMU letterman jacket on, received over 61,000 views.

“Thank you, God! I am proud to announce that I will be spending my next four years at THEE #1 Public HBCU: Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University as a biology pre-med major! Thank you to my family and friends for continuously pouring into and supporting me! See you on The Hill,” Alaura stated.

The following day, she made another post and stated “Over these next four years, there’s no place I would rather call my HBCU (Historically Black College or University) than The Highest of Seven Hills.”

Alaura will be making the transition after graduating from Woodward Academy, a college-preparatory school in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

“My baby girl is all grown up,” Heavenly stated under the post, which received over 300,000 views and nearly 50,000 likes.

On top of their mother-daughter relationship, Heavenly and Alaura are also co-owners of a beauty supply and hair extension business in Georgia called Heavenly Beauty, where Alaura runs the store's social media and website platforms, according to a recent Essence article.

As of May 3 — just days after College Decision Day — 1,400 freshmen have committed to FAMU so far, according to the university’s Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management Hugh Durham.

The number is expected to grow as the university received over 20,000 applications from first-time-in-college students this year.

In a FAMU social media post, the university stated “Congrats, Alaura and welcome to the FAMUly.”

The first day of the fall semester will be Aug. 28 to kick off the 2023-24 academic school year.
