A Brazilian delivery service goes where others won't

Locator: Sao Paulo, Brazil

Favelas in Brazil are getting

their very own delivery service

The slums were deemed off-limits

for their dangerous alleyways

Even as internet orders have

boomed in the last two years

(SOUNDBITE) (Portuguese) FAVELA BRASIL EXPRESS CEO, GIVANILDO PEREIRA, SAYING:

"We want to live in one Brazil, where a favela resident has the same rights as someone who lives in a wealthy neighbourhood."

"Just in Paraisopolis, there are around 800 deliveries a day. This cargo is valued around 500 thousand reais ($90,000 USD)."

100,000 people live in Paraisopolis

They were used to their post codes

being rejected... until now

(SOUNDBITE) (Portuguese) FAVELA RESIDENT, FRANCISCO JEFFERSON SILVA, SAYING:

"I used to give my mother's employer's home address. When my mother came back from work, she brought (the packages) to me. Today I can give my (own) home address and number."

Favela Brazil Express employees

are made up of community residents

But navigating the complex

is not always easy even for them

The company operates in a handful

of favelas in other states
