Brazilian Red Cross Workers Disinfect Streets Amid Growing Coronavirus Cases

Workers with the Brazilian Red Cross were filmed spraying the streets of Nova Friburgo, amid a steady rise in confirmed across the country.

This footage was posted on June 9 by an official with the local chapter of the Brazilian Red Cross (Cruz Vermelha).

According to city figures, the number of coronavirus-positive patients in Nova Friburgo has risen by several hundred in the last month. The city government confirmed on June 10 at least 325 cases and 28 deaths.

On April 20, Nova Friburgo Mayor Renato Bravo decreed that the use of masks in public areas would become mandatory.

Brazil’s coronavirus outbreak, the worst in Latin America, has been given a skeptical response from the country’s far right president, Jair Bolsonaro.
