Brazil's Bolsonaro tests positive for coronavirus
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
The right-wing leader - who has downplayed the risks of the virus, even likening it to a "little flu," revealed his test result on Tuesday in a television interview.
Bolsonaro said he began having symptoms on Sunday and was tested the next day.
"I started feeling unwell on Sunday and that feeling worsened during the day on Monday with malaise, tiredness, a bit of muscle pain and a fever that reached 38 degrees in the late afternoon."
He also added that he's been taking hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malarial drug with unproven effectiveness against COVID-19.
The Brazilian president has repeatedly appeared in public without a mask and has railed against social distancing rules, even as Brazil has suffered one of the world's worst coronavirus outbreaks.
With more than 1.6 million confirmed cases and 65,000 deaths.
Still, for months, Bolsonaro has pressured governors and mayors to reverse lockdown orders and reopen the economy.
Over the weekend, he attended several events and was in close contact with the U.S. ambassador to Brazil during 4th of July celebrations.
Bolsonaro tested negative in March for the coronavirus after several aides were diagnosed following a visit to U.S. President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
