Brazil's Souza provisionally suspended again

Brazilian tennis player Joao Souza has been provisionally suspended for a second time "following consideration of additional evidence" submitted by the Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU) regarding a corruption investigation.

Souza, 30, was initially suspended on March 29 but was reinstated April 8 following a successful appeal. The TIU did not provide specifics regarding the suspension, but announced that no more appeals will be accepted.

"The effect of the provisional suspension is that Mr Souza is ineligible to compete in or attend any sanctioned event organized or recognized by the governing bodies of the sport," the TIU said in a statement Friday.

The TIU is a joint initiative between the Grand Slam board, the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the ATP and the WTA, "who are jointly committed to a zero tolerance approach to corruption in tennis."

Souza was ranked 404th in the world at the time of his first suspension and is currently No. 422, but reached as high as 69 in 2015. He last competed at the Santiago Challenger in March, and has not won an ATP title since turning professional in 2006, having spent most of his career on the ATP Challenger circuit.
