Happy Thursday, neighbors! Here's everything you need to know about what's happening locallytoday.

First, today's weather:

Breezy and not as cold. High: 22 Low: 18.

Here are the top three stories today in Burlington:

  1. The Burlington Police Department is investigating a break-in at Mayor Miro Weinberger’s home. The Weinberger family reported the crime just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday. According to police, no one was injured and nothing appeared to be immediately missing. (WCAX)

  2. Senator Bernie Sanders plans to introduce legislation that will increase funding for Vermont area career and volunteer departments, including fire and EMS crews. For frontline workers, the help can't come soon enough, with calls spiking amid the pandemic. South Burlington Fire Chief Terry Francis estimated that his department is now seeing up to 16 calls a day, up from approximately 10 in pre-pandemic years. (WPTZ)

  3. A South Burlington artist has won the Caldecott Medal for his work on the children's book, "Watercress." The prestigious medal, awarded each year to "the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children," is given by the Association for Library Service to Children. "Watercress," written by Andrea Wang, tells the story of a rural Ohio girl who is the daughter of Chinese immigrants. (Seven Days)
