Winter Haven, Lakeland, George Jenkins and Lakeland Christian, in no particular order, have battled all season as the top team in the district with LCS coming away with the county title a few weeks ago.

Being the top team in the district, however, is just for bragging rights. Now, it becomes meaningful.

The district tournaments for baseball begin on Monday. All four teams are among the Polk County teams that should make the regional playoffs in hopes of making a run to the state tournament.

Here is a breakdown of the district tournaments involving Polk County.

Class 7A, District 5

Seeds: 1. Windermere, 2. Dr. Phillips, 3. Olympia, 4. Haines City, 5. Celebration.

Outlook: Haines City should reach the semifinals but faces a tough challenge to go beyond that. The Hornes enter the district tournament as winners of four of their last five games including the last three. Andy Colon (.328) is the only hitter batting over .300 among the starters. Austin Vakiener (4-3, 0.93 ERA) is one of the top pitchers in the county.

Projected Playoff Teams: Windermere.

Class 6A, District 10

Seeds: 1. Winter Haven, 2. Lakeland, 3. George Jenkins, 4. Bartow, 5. Lake Gibson, 6. Kathleen, 7. Ridge Community.

Outlook: The teams in 6A-10 aren't ranked high in the state as Winter Haven (18-7) is the highest ranked at No. 25. However, the top three seeds are 4-5-6 in the region. Winter Haven has come on strong. The Blue Devils are 15-3 after a 3-4 start and head into districts as winners in seven of their last right games. Dylan Bowen (.390), Mason Jantomaso (.386) and Desean Rogers (.373) lead a lineup that features six starters over .300 plus freshman Gage McGrystal (.283), who is batting .400 (12 for 30) in his last 11 games after starting the season 2 for 23. Head coach David Schafer uses a lot of pitchers as seven pitchers have thrown at least 13 innings with just one pitcher, Dylan Deleo (38.1 IP) having thrown more than 25 innings.

Lakeland and George Jenkins are favored to be the two teams that will battle to face Winter Haven in the final. Lakeland (17-7) is just 3-4 in its last seven games. Healthy, the Dreadnaughts have a dangerous lineup with nine players regulars over .300 with Laith Lineberger (.500), Nic Partridge (.466), Jesuel Fernandez (.432) and Sammy Hernandez (.426) all over .400. However, the Dreadnaughts are battling injuries with six players out, five starters, including Hernandez, Partridge and Fernandez. Nolan Shamoun (4-1, 1.54 ERA), who also bats .377, and Zach Dwyer (4-3, 0.94) anchor the pitching staff.

George Jenkins (15-8) appeared to be the team to beat this year after a 7-0 start. The Eagles are 8-8 since then but finished the season winning six of eight. The Eagles have five players batting over .300 but just two, Richie Collazo (.409) an Coleby Small (.377) over .320. They have relied on a strong pitching staff led by Tyler Williams (1.79 ERA), Corban Little (1.56 ERA), Aiden Kelley (3.98 ERA) and Caiden Kok. However, Little sustained a season-ending elbow injury on April 5, and the Eagles were already without top pitcher Chandler Dorsey.

There is a drop off after the top three teams as No. 4 Bartow is just 8-17.

Projected Playoff Teams: Winter Haven, Lakeland, George Jenkins.

Class 5A, District 10

Seeds: 1. Lake Minneola, 2. Cypress Creek, 3. Zephyrhills, 4. South Lake, 5. Auburndale, 6. Pasco.

Outlook: Auburndale (10-12) is two games under .500 and is the 11th seed in the region. The Bloodhounds will have to win the districted title to gain a playoff berth. With Giovanny Mendez (.414), Pierce Glading (.365) and Gavin Steadman (.365) leading the lineup, the Bloodhounds can score runs. The Bloodhounds should be competitive against No. 4 South Lake in the first round, but the lack of pitching spots could prevent them from grabbing two more upsets, especially in a strong district that could have three playoff teams.

Projected Playoff Teams: Lake Minneola, Cypress Creek, Zephyrhills.

Class 5A, District 11

Seeds: 1. Eau Gallie, 2. Rockledge, 3. Lake Wales, 4. Liberty, 5. Gateway, 6. Jones.

Outlook: Lake Wales (12-13) is seeded No. 6 in the region, so it still could make the playoffs even with a semifinal loss. Mason Hixenbaugh (.379) leads a lineup that has just three batters over .400. Parker Brown (5-3, 2.95 ERA) leads the pitching staff. As their records suggests, it's been an up-and-down season for the Highlanders.

Projected Playoff Teams: Eau Gallie, Rockledge, Lake Wales.

Class 4A, District 11

Seeds: 1. McKeel, 2. Lake Region, 3. Mulberry, 4. Horizon, 5. Lake Buena Vista.

Outlook: McKeel (12-12) is just .500 but is the top seed in the district. The Wildcats are ranked No. 9 in the region so only one team from this district will reach the playoffs. They have won three of their last four to end the season, scoring 38 runs in the four games. Mason Smith (.278) is the run producer as he leads McKeel with three homers and 20 RBIs. Josh Quezada (.380 BA) and Brent Ashley (.333) lead the lineup. KJ Scobey leads with 10 doubles. Although he is batting just .265, Scobey is batting .375 (6 for 16) in his last four games to raise his average 27 points. Smith (5-2, 2.06 ERA) and Timmy Douglass (2.66 ERA) lead the pitching staff. Lake Region, the No. 2 seed, is just 6-13.

Projected Playoff Teams: McKeel.

Class 3A, District 7

Seeds: 1. Lakeland Christian, 2. Avon Park, 3. Lake Placid, 4. Frostproof, 5. Discovery, 6. Davenport.

Outlook: Top-seed Lake Christian (18-5) has won 11 of its last 12 games and is ranked No. 3 in the region. The Vikings have plenty of offense led by Wyatt Jenkins (.457), Daniel Hartley (.429), and Zach Lester (.406). Catcher Brody Donay (.339) has eight home runs and 25 RBIs, both team highs, and 15 of his 20 hits are for extra bases. He is batting .428 (9 for 21) in his last eight games and has raised his batting average 50 points during that span. Hartley (0.95 ERA) and Mack Estrada (7-0, 1.97 ERA) lead he pitching staff.

Frostproof is the next-highest seed from Polk but will face LCS in the semis if it defeated Discovery on Monday. Christ Gordon (.392) is one of the top players in the county.

Projected Playoff Teams: Lakeland Christian, Avon Park.

Class 2A, District 7

Seeds: 1. Foundation, 2. Santa Fe Catholic, 3. Victory Christian, 4. All Saints.

Outlook: Santa Fe Catholic (15-10) enters the district tournament with a four-game winning streak and with wins of six of its past seven games. The Crimson Hawks defeated top-seed Foundation, 11-1, in the middle of the season. Blake Lyons (.411), Max Montenegro (.382) and Trent Henley (.358) lead at the lineup. Jacob Knisley (2.55 ERA), Henley (2.17 ERA), Peter Walsh (3.50 ERA) lead the pitching staff.

Victory Christian and All Saints are ranked No. 8 and No. 9 respectively in the region. Both, however, would need to pull off an upset in the semifinals and hope to move up to No. 7. The top seed in Region isn't ranked in the top eight, and the winner will get on of the playoff spots

Projected Playoff Teams: Foundation, Santa Fe Catholic.

Class 1, District 8

Seeds: 1. Fort Meade, 2. Wildwood, 3. Taylor.

Outlook: Top-seed Fort Meade (11-12) is ranked No. 4 in the region. J Barnett (.348), D Rodriguez (.329), Eddie Harrell (.308) and RJ Cabrera (.306) lead the lineup. J Cabrera (2.23 ERA) leads the pitching staff. The Miners were 10-5 then went on a six-game losing streak before beating Auburndale, 12-5, on Tuesday. However, all the losses came against bigger schools, including George Jenkins and Winter Haven. Fort Meade closed out the season with a 3-2 loss to Frostproof on Friday.

Projected Playoff Teams: Fort Meade.
